We have prepared a birding tour in Northern Greece mainly for O.S.M.E. (Ornithological Society of the Middle East, the Caucasus and Central Asia) members.

We will be donating a small amount to the society for each participant, so if you want to help the society and have a great birding holiday at the same time, you are welcome to join the tour!

Short description:

A 15 days / 14 nights bird tour in Northern Greece. The tour starts and ends in Thessaloniki,
Greece, with main destinations the areas of Lake Kerkini, Prespa Lakes, areas around Thessaloniki,
Porto Lagos, Nestos Delta and Gorge, Dadia Forest and Evros Delta.

• 4 nights in Xanthi
• 4 nights in Lake Kerkini

Number of Participants:

We can operate the tour with a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12 participants

Accommodation:

• Very good 3* and 4* hotels and guesthouses, most of them in very close distance from
  birding sites.
• Accommodation in double rooms. Small number of single rooms and triple rooms
  might be available at a supplement / discount.
• All hotels offer private bathroom, wi-fi internet access and sitting areas with bar for
  tea/coffee/drinks.

Meals :

• All 14 breakfasts are included.
• 14 dinners are included. Most of them will be in the hotels, some in nearby restaurants.
  In most cases they will include a variety of traditional dishes based on fresh local ingredients.
  Drinks are not included.
• Bottled water, tea and coffee will be available during birding / on the road.

Transportation:

• We will use a 9 seat mini-bus for 6 participants.
• We will use a 9 seat mini-bus and a car for 7 or 8 participants.
• We will use two 9 seat mini-buses for 9 to 12 participants.
• All fuel, tolls, etc is included in the price
• All driving will be done by our drivers / escorts.
• Airport pick-up and drop-off is also included.

Tour pace :

Most of the days the birding areas are just minutes away from the hotels, so the typical
program will include birding in the morning / free time at noon / birding in the afternoon. On the days we change hotels, we will do birding in the morning / travel to new location / birding in the afternoon.

• Pre-breakfast birding is possible.
• Basic fitness is all that required. Most of the times we will get close to the birding
  spots with the vehicle and a short length walk we be required.

Escorts / drivers :

• Our escort(s) will meet you upon your arrival at Thessaloniki airport and stay with you
  until your departure from Thessaloniki airport
• They are responsible for all driving / navigating and all arrangement with hotels, restaurants
  etc. You just sit back and enjoy the tour.
• Our escort(s) are local and they also speak English, they are experienced drivers and
  they are also certified in First Aids / CPR
• Our escort(s) have very good knowledge of the areas included in the tour and the birding
  sites.

Info pack:

Each participant will receive an info pack, that contains:

• a booklet with useful information about the areas visited ( not only about birding ),
  contact details and location of hotels
• A list of the birds of Greece
• A check-list with the birds of Greece

Tour photos :

Photos taken by our escorts during the tour will be available for you club without any
cost.

Donation :

Odyssey Tours will donate the amount of EUR 100 for each participant to O.S.M.E.

Two days ago we had a lovely, sunny morning – although the temperature was rather low…
I was ready to walk our dog, when I saw the visitors in our garden. Luckily, they did not fly away while I was in the house preparing the camera

The last few days we experienced serious problems with our server, leading to problems in the correct operation of our website.
We were forced to proceed to major updates in our web services and software that unfortunately caused unexpected failures…
To avoid any further future problems, we have decided to clean everything and re-build our website.
We apologize for any inconvenience and we try hard to be on-line again as soon as possible.
Form today ( 10/09/11) a basic layout of the website will be available, and we hope that by the 15th of September almost all data will be available again.
